Thematic Perspective on the Very Short Story in Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The study problem is stimulated through studying the central themes in the Saudi short story, and the limited significant intensification it produces in the Saudi criticism; particularly, the themes of woman, child, individual-self, and the moment's time. The study seeks to identify the following objectives: The main themes of the very short story in Saudi Arabia that constitute its narrative perspective and the capabilities of the Saudi narrative imagination to make significance in the short story. Based on the fact that the very short story today is part of the discourse of renewal, and the modernisation rearranges the elements of the text and violates the customary rules in producing significance, the study adopts the descriptive-semantic approach to achieve clarification of the significance industry in the Saudi fictional experience, and the perspectives, paradoxes, and semantic tendencies it produces within the specificity of the narrative experience in Saudi Arabia. The study comes up with the following findings: The Saudi writer is aware of the devices and techniques of this color of narration, and avoiding addressing the thematic perspective of the central focus using the traditional methods in the Saudi narrative discourse generally, and the moment's time theme is produced by overwhelming connotations in which woman is as a source of paradox production in life, and the childhood theme in the Saudi narration is an active and central character in the text, and not just a character he writes about.
